Below is a list of default laws the city must go by until the mayor declares otherwise. Everything listed can be changed by the mayor, but the mayor is not restricted to just these laws. Please note that these are in-game roleplay laws. You won't get punished by admins for breaking these, though you may end up in legal trouble in the RP.
Traffic
- It is illegal to drive recklessly, which includes but is not limited to: Speeding, running red lights and stop signs, crashing, not yielding to pedestrians, and crossing the center line.
- Blocking traffic by any means without proper permission is illegal.
- Mechanics are permitted to tow and impound illegally parked cars without asking or notifying law enforcement officials.
- Mechanics, firefighters, and law enforcement officials are exempt from all traffic laws if they are responding to an emergency call.
Weapons
- Open and concealed carry of weapons on public property is illegal, except for knives and handguns.
- Possession of explosive devices of any kind is illegal, even on private property.
Contraband
- A license is required from the mayor or police chief to sell alcoholic beverages.
- Money printers and money printer upgrades are illegal, but the paper they use is legal.
- All drugs and drug-making items are illegal, except for everyday household items such as stoves, pots, and fuel cans.
- Medicinal use of drugs requires a license from the mayor, police chief, or fire chief.
- Slot machines are not permitted to be used outside of publicly accessible buildings that are clearly marked as casinos.
Property
- A permit to build is not required on private property, but is required on public property.
- It is illegal for a person to be on private property without the owner's permission.
- Damaging or stealing someone else's property is illegal.
- Detectives are exempt from all property laws if the property they are investigating is related to a case.
Justice System & Law Enforcement
- Civilians cannot detain someone who is suspected of committing a crime, unless the person committed (or plans to commit) a violent crime.
- Players who have been arrested are still entitled to the same laws and rights as law-abiding players, no matter what crime they committed.
- Being corrupt as any job is illegal.
- Attempting to commit a crime but not actually doing it is still illegal, even if there is no victim.
- The death penalty is only to be given to those who have killed others.
- Police are permitted to arrest any player seen interacting with the smuggler or contraband dealer.
- A full sentence with a trial is to be given to those who request it before arrest, as long as the mayor is available to be the judge.
- Police must have sufficient evidence before making an arrest.
- If a hitman kills someone, both the hitman and the person who hired him are to be held responsible for the death.
- Police may only weapon check and confiscate weapons when they feel it is necessary to prevent the person from doing something illegal.
- Police cannot force detectives to give up client information.
Citizen Well-Being
- Killing or injuring other players is illegal, unless it is proven to be self defense.
- Harassment of any sort is illegal.
- News reporters cannot film on private property without the owner's consent.
